Bluejay VolleyLab

Bluejay VolleyLab is a skill-development training program built for athletes who want to train competitively, build confidence, and improve volleyball IQ. Sessions are intentionally designed to provide high-rep, skill-focused training in a structured, supportive environment.

VolleyLab bridges the gap between team practices and game performance β€” helping athletes translate reps into results.

Who would BVL benefit most?

  • Competitive athletes
  • Players looking to train with purpose
  • Athletes focused on skill development and confidence-building

Hour 1: Setting & OOS Lab

1:00-2:00pm

Best for:

  • Setters
  • Liberos
  • Defensive Specialists

Other positions that benefit:

Out-of-system (OOS) balls don’t belong to one position. Every player must be prepared to handle second contact in match play.

  • Middles build confidence using their hands when the setter is unavailable
  • Pins prepare to set from the back row using hands or platform

Focus areas include:

  • Setting technique & footwork
  • Decision-making in OOS situations
  • Communication & volleyball IQ
  • Game-like reps under pressure

πŸ’‘ This lab builds adaptability and confidence when the play breaks down.

Hour 2: Serve & Pass Lab

2:00-3:00pm

Best for:

  • Liberos
  • Defensive Specialists (DSs)
  • Pin hitters

Other positions that benefit:

  • Setters often start matches serving and set the tone early
  • Serving is the only fully controllable skill in volleyball
  • Strong serve receive is the foundation of every offense

Focus areas include:

  • Consistent, aggressive serving
  • Serve-receive footwork & platform control
  • Reading servers and ball flight
  • Competitive, high-rep drills

πŸ’‘ This lab focuses on consistency, confidence, and point-scoring pressure.

Hour 3: Attack & Defense Lab

3:00-4:00pm

Best for:

  • Pin hitters
  • Middles
  • Liberos
  • Defensive Specialists

Other positions that benefit:

  • Teams often attack Zone 1 to take the setter out of the play β€” setters must be confident defenders
  • Every player should be able to put a competitive attack over the net, even from the back row
  • Free balls should be an emergency move, not a default option

Focus areas include:

  • Attacking mechanics & shot selection
  • Defensive positioning & reads
  • Transition from defense to offense
  • Competitive, game-like rallies

πŸ’‘ This lab builds point-scoring ability and rally-extending defense.
